Minna Lee (they/them/she/her) is a Hmong-Vietnamese American writer and animator who takes audiences into whimsical worlds full of queer joy and strange magic. They are a recipient of the Dramatist Guild's 2024 Lanford Wilson Award, a 2025 Audrey Resident at New Georges, a MacDowell Fellow, a member of the Playwrights Cohort at PlayPenn, and a writer in Ma-Yi Theater's 2025 Playground program.
Their work includes My Home on the Moon (World Premiere at San Francisco Playhouse directed by Mei Ann Teo; Winner of the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for Best Original Script), ACTING STRANGER co-written and performed with Andrew Schneider and Fox Whitney (On the Boards and LA Performance Practice) and Last Gold (2024 National Playwright’s Conference Semi-Finalist). Their short stories have been published in various literary journals including the Bricolage, You Flower/You Feast, and Call Me [Brackets]. They were the lead animator for Cloud House (On the Boards' Blackbox Weathermxn series) in collaboration with writer/performer Brendan Mack. In the fall of 2024, they presented an installation called MEMORY BEAR at LocalProduct Gallery (developed in part by The Assembly Theater's Deceleration Lab).
Minna is currently working on a commission for San Francisco Playhouse.
They are a New Georges Affiliated Artist, a member of TAG at The Tank, a 2022 Sesame Workshop Writers’ Room Fellow, and a member of Pipeline Theatre's 2024 Playlab cohort.
